Employee productivity can be directly related to employee satisfaction. Plainly, then, it is in the interest of every business to understand what drives, and what deters, employee satisfaction. Some companies inadvertently work against productivity improvement by failing to take steps to understand the attitudes and expectations that determine employee satisfaction. Moreover, as businesses grow, their policies and procedures need periodic review to make sure they are responsive to the needs of the changing employee base, and to fix them if they are not. Absent those reviews — and course corrections as required — employee satisfaction and productivity tend to erode.

There are a number of practices that create stumbling blocks to high employee satisfaction, among them:

  • Failing to listen to employees or, having listened, failing to act on what has been heard.
  • Tolerating office politics and favoritism.
  • Persisting with recognition programs that have outlived their relevance to employees.
  • Ignoring the importance of career development to employee satisfaction.

Employee satisfaction surveys provide one way to “listen” to employees, and to understand their views on these and other issues. There is self-interest in urging an employee survey, of course, because that is how we earn our living. But it is in the best interest of our clients, as well, since it provides them with the information they need to make informed decisions about how to increase employee satisfaction.

We provide a time-tested employee satisfaction questionnaire, which we customize as needed to meet each client’s specific issues and concerns. We provide reliable norms based on prior surveys, so clients can see where they stand in comparison to similar organizations. We provide a leverage analysis that identifies key areas for improvement. Most of all, we provide dedicated personal service to ensure that client needs are fully addressed.
