Permanently Happy Temporary

I was working in a temporary position and usually those positions are not considered very important because you are just filling in until their regular employee returns. I was amazed to find that every day when I was leaving for the day, my boss would stop whatever he was doing and tell me that he appreciated all the things I had done that day. If there was anything that I had gone out of my way to do, he would specifically mention that task. A couple of times, he was in a meeting when he saw me leaving and he asked them to wait just a moment and he came to the door of the conference room and acknowledged in front of everyone that he appreciated my work. Once, he was on the phone, and he stopped the conversation long enough to wish me a good evening and thank me for the work I had done. It meant a lot to me that he went out of his way to show that his appreciation was genuine and not just something he said when it was convenient.
