The Boss Who Would Squeeze Blood from a Stone
I work for a small family-owned food production company that employs about 8 people. It is the most disorganized outfit I have ever worked for. First off, My boss (we'll call him Bob) couldn't care less about any sort of personal problems that we have. He just doesn't want to be bothered with anything, and if a problem does come up, he gets mad.
I am the delivery driver for the company and my hours are varied and usually long, 10 to 18 hours per day. Bob has me on a straight salary and will not give me any compensation for my extra hours or for performing tasks that are not part of my job. When I was hired two years ago, my sole duty was to drive the truck. Now I am expected to be a mechanic without any extra pay. I have saved him several thousand dollars in repairing the junk equipment myself instead of sending it to the shop.
He never offers anything. If I want a raise, I have to beg for it. I believe that a raise should be offered to me for a job well done as well as appreciation for my efforts. Many times I will need him to make calls to customers for me and he will forget, then leaves me to deal with the angry customer. Several times he has forgotten to write my paycheck and I have to track him down on his cell-phone to remind him and wait for him for several hours to get back to the office. He runs around town all day goofing off instead of being at the office when we need him. I have been ready to walk off the job several times this month just for his ignorance and unappreciative attitude. The way he sees it, he is doing us a favor be letting us work for him and shouldn't be so selfish when I hunt him down to find out when he is going to make my paycheck out. This is my idea of a very bad boss.
